Solar sales rep question

Solar sales rep question I am having a hard time here deciding if I can work a commission based job.I don’t want to be a independent contractor because I don’t want to run a business and be considered a independent this having to separate all finances and open a business account. The thing is most solar company’s want to pay commission but to my surprise still offer benefits which is unusual as most commission based jobs don’t do benefits so am I missing something here? Are you guys considered employs or independents because according to federal laws a employ must have hours and have a pay structure towards those hours. So I would hope by a long shot if you guys are employs they are adding hours in to classify you as a employ.i was a reading s little bit and I just found out employs can actually be paid full commission but some how they have to connect it to hours regardless. submitted by /u/bodrifle [visit reddit] [comments] https://ift.tt/2NBf04V

Avoid Blue Raven Solar

Avoid Blue Raven Solar If you are thinking about going solar stay far away from Blue Raven. They offered a “production guarantee” that the system they will install will be sufficient enough for our household. Three months later and after doing quite a bit of research, they only installed a 4.72kwp solar array for $20K where others would have installed a higher capacity system for the same price. I end up finding the permit they submitted with our city and they cost was listed as $10K. What they installed is obviously not sufficient so now we end up paying for the solar loan on top of our power bill which defeats the whole purpose of going solar! After confirming with our power company that the system does not even send back excess energy back to the grid to accrue net meter credit, we tried to reach them via phone and they had the nerve to tell us that we have been using excess energy. We already installed the smart thermostat and led light bulbs that they provided during the instal...

Advice Needed - SoCal Home Solar Question

Advice Needed - SoCal Home Solar Question We recently purchased a home in Southern California, and solar is something that's been on my radar for a while. I've been doing the necessary research and we finally had a solar company come out for a consult and to deliver us with some numbers. However, one fundamental element he mentioned struck me as odd, and I'm wondering what to make of it. I asked him what period of the day would we be effectively using solar power with the system, and he said only 10-2. I understand that solar is only effective when the sun is up and hitting the panels, and that the efficiency varies depending on the sun's angle. However, if we're only generating solar power when we're NOT home (we both work 9-5 jobs) during the week, what's the point? Is the benefit in the fact that we send power to SDGE and get credit for that, which we can later use to offset our usage when solar isn't being utilized in the home? This may be a simp...

need help with project

need help with project I have tried, off and on, for the last few months to find a how-to on putting together a solar water pump. But everything I come across either starts with buying one of those tiny, $5 premade solar fountains or is a large scale project for watering cows. I just want to run a 10w pump on solar. I don't need a battery to run it on cloudy days or during the evening. What size solar panel do I need and how do I hook it up to the pump? What is a good website for instructions because I can't find anything remotely like what I'm trying to do. submitted by /u/deathsmiled [visit reddit] [comments] https://ift.tt/2PUB7Fe

Losing interest in Solar (Solar City/Tesla)

Losing interest in Solar (Solar City/Tesla) Last May we had Vivant Solar come around our neighborhood trying to sell solar. I almost went with them, but held off because of the fact how expensive it was ($284 solar bill), and it only offset me about 44%. I got in contact with Solar City last October and had everything finalized around December. Part of this was my fault because I got some more quotes and wasn't sure. At this point I had already did a hard credit check in October/November'ish to ensure I'd be able to get them. Come late April they asked me reapply for financing because it had been 6 months. The salesrep told me it would be done within 6 months and that will be the last time I'd need to do it. Yesterday my new Tesla person that took over my contract told me I have until 10/27, but may have to do another hard credit check after that to extend it to 12/27. The other people who got solar with Vivant Solar has had panels up for over a year now. I'm s...

Lighting for sheep pen at night? Hello guys. I'm new here and trying to find out some info for my father who isn't on the internet much. We are looking for a high-quality flood lamp that can illuminate our sheep pen at night which helps keeps coyotes away. We currently use a conventional light but would like to try solar. Thinking about starting my own thing... Need some advice TLDR; I want to start a solo sales business model & contract out the installation only. I'm wondering what profit margins I could be looking at. Northern Utah Market I've been working for solar companies for the last 4-5 years & am quite frankly getting pretty tired of working with amateurs. I've been in system design most of the time, but have moved back & forth between proposal building & surveying frequently. With that said, I've been thinking about running my own solo sales business while contracting out the installation. I would do everything up from knocking on doors, to filing a permit on the same day, or next business day, as well as commissioning systems post installation & setting up monitoring. My hopes are that I can sell an honest & affordable product & provide customers with actual answers & detail instead of pushing a signed contract. I would determine before any...

US Ethanol Industry Upset With 2019 Renewable Fuel Standard Proposal

US Ethanol Industry Upset With 2019 Renewable Fuel Standard Proposal The 2019 proposed US Renewable Fuel Standard proposed volumes attracted a major raspberry from the ethanol industry. As the American Coalition for Ethanol noted: “Unfortunately, EPA continues to take actions which undermine the letter and spirit of the statute and harm the rural economy. While refiners are reporting double-digit profits, the heart of America is being left behind. Farmers are losing money while refiners have the best of both worlds: fat profit margins and minimal RFS compliance costs. [CA] NEM 1.0 and TOU plan changes

[CA] NEM 1.0 and TOU plan changes Hi everyone, My parents just purchased an EV, and they expect their energy consumption to increase by a large margin. I'm trying to help them figure out a long-term solution. Here are some facts about the current situation: - They have a 7.5 KW PV system that has been overproducing by a large amount for the past few years. - They're under California's NEM 1.0 plan, using the domestic (tiered) rate plan. They expect the EV consumption to take them out of tier 1. - They can add some panels (at most 3), but it'd likely make them lose NEM1 grandfathering (my understanding is that upgrades can't be more than 1 KW or 10% of the existing system) I've a few questions: 1) Under NEM1, can they switch to a current TOU plan and not have to migrate to NEM2? 2) If they switch to TOU, how are credits generated? Are they dollar-per-dollar or kWh-per-kWh ? 3) My father is hesitant to switch to TOU because their energy consumption is r...

Any caveats with adding more panels than necessary

Any caveats with adding more panels than necessary Ready to finalize design tomorrow. According to our usage we need 11 panels to be at 98 % usage. However I’ll be adding a minisplit and possibly an electric tankless heater to take advantage of the “free” electricity to reduce our gas bills. So I was asking for 15 330w panels at 4.95KW. Located in San Jose with pg&e. Any downsides to doing this other than the upfront cost? Thanks! submitted by /u/Careddit1 [visit reddit] [comments] https://ift.tt/2LwDyu2

Those who either work in or who have been sold residential solar...

Those who either work in or who have been sold residential solar... Do the companies in your experience normally discuss with the consumer the importance of home efficiency prior to going solar? Or is it all about the sale of the product/service? I'm wondering if companies out there are truly trying to benefit the customer and the environment by improving the overall energy efficiency first, then implementing the solar as a way to further decrease the cost of their energy needs. submitted by /u/Donjuan11b [visit reddit] [comments] https://ift.tt/2PD3ZS9

Roof Top Solar and Distribution Fees

Roof Top Solar and Distribution Fees Recently purchased a new home that is not exactly in the middle of nowhere but also not in a city or housing development. Our first electric bill contained distribution fees of close to $100, while our actual bill for electricity used was about the same. The total bill coming to over $200. I've always been interested in rooftop solar if/when I bought a house. My question is how does this effect the distribution fees charged by the electric company. I'm really not clear on how that fee is calculated. Or if most of the electricity I consume is generated by my solar panels what fees will I still owe the electric company. Apologies if this isn't the right place to ask this, having a tough time finding answers. submitted by /u/purged6 [visit reddit] [comments] https://ift.tt/2wor5mT

TurnKey installed cost of less than $2.30/W (whats the catch?)

TurnKey installed cost of less than $2.30/W (whats the catch?) I'm in an upper midwestern state. I've got a reputable local installer quoting less than $2.30/W installed with grid tie inverter (not micro inverters), 26 panel array (just under 10kW), and all the paperwork arranged to make the federal and state tax credits easy peasy. I'm very close to pulling the trigger, and from what I can tell, the price looks good (compared to other posts). Intuition tells me I've got to question whether its too good to be true. What questions should I be asking? What am I missing? Screening For the Best Clean Energy ETF

Image
Screening For the Best Clean Energy ETF by Vic Patel There are over a dozen major Clean Energy ETFs available to investors. But which one is the best one to put your hard earned money into? Best can mean different things to different people based on their investment preferences and risk profile. In this article, I will provide a more empirical based reason behind why I believe that PZD is the most attractive Clean Energy ETF at the moment. I have based on my analysis of 4  primary factors: liquidity, diversification, recent price action, and last but not least expense ratio. Liquidity  has to be a major consideration in the selection of any financial asset. The lack of sufficient liquidity can lead to wider bid ask pricing, and difficulty in efficient trade execution Top 5 Most Liquid Clean Energy ETFs (based on 3 month Avg. How to prevent low light voltage/current?

How to prevent low light voltage/current? Here’s my setup: A 15W solar panel connected to a DC-DC step-down to 5V converter that connects via USB to a Li-ion powerbank that is connected to a raspberry pi. The power bank supports charging and discharging at the same time, so when I connect to a wall outlet or the solar panel in full sunlight, it will continuously power the raspberry pi - even when you plug and unplug the power from the outlet or the panel. The problem I have is the in-between times of low light, when the solar panel is only producing a tiny fraction of the full power current. In the early morning and late afternoon, the low current will make the power bank flicker and ultimately shut down it and the raspberry pi. So, I think I need something to buffer the solar panel and power bank so that current only flows to the power bank when it is a steady stream of full power from the panel. Sounds like I need a MOSFET, but not quite... Does anyone know what this device w...

Colorado is on the verge of massive solar development! You can help make it happen!

Colorado is on the verge of massive solar development! You can help make it happen! For nearly a decade, a single clause, just 17 words has prevented an avalanche (pun intended) of solar and renewable development in the state of Colorado. The Public Utility Commission of Colorado has been enforcing an unlawful (in violation of Federal Law) rule preventing the development of hundreds of Megawatts of solar and renewable generation from being developed. The agency is supposed to represent the public and act in the public interest on behalf of electric ratepayers, but has actively defended this rule which only benefits the profits of the major investor owned utilities in the state. It is shameful that it has taken this long, but at last after lots of behind the scenes effort the commission has opened a docket/proceeding focused on changing this unlawful rule. The docket/proceeding number is 18R-0492E and can be found in the state's public information filing system here . Just type t...

Help With RV Solar Wiring Diagram

Help With RV Solar Wiring Diagram Wiring Diagram: https://ibb.co/fC6Tv9 Hi all, looking for some assistance with a solar setup for an RV! My wiring diagram pictured above. Questions: 1) Do I need any more fuses/breakers? 2) If I get a 50 amp mppt charger controller, I shouldn't run it and the 75 amp converter/charger at the same time right? From what I've read, the two chargers can't work together and configure voltage accurately (for float etc.). Or if I do, only use the two combined to get the batteries up to 80%. With 800ah battery bank the two combined will only be about 0.17C, but I'm worried about the voltages not being right for float charging. 3) The 2500w inverter is combined with a 75 amp charger/converter with an auto-transfer switch. Does this affect my wiring in any way? I feel like with the way it's set up, it will want to output power to the solar charger? I think this is wrong, but I just wanted to check. 4) Am I missing anything else? Notes:...

Solar Panel output 19v regulator dropping to 9v??

Solar Panel output 19v regulator dropping to 9v?? I'm having issues with my automatic gate. The batteries keep going dead. I bought a cheap charge controller at harbor freight ( https://www.harborfreight.com/7-amp-solar-charge-regulator-96728.html ) because its the only place around that had one in stock. Here is my issue: When everything is connected the voltage from the regulator battery output is at 9v. The voltage from the solar panel (40w panel) is around 19v going into the regulator. Why is this? Bad regulator? When I connect the Solar panel directly to the battery will charge it fine - however I understand I don't want this because its unregulated. The original gate circuit board will only give 5v to the battery when connected via the solar panel. I've researched and the circuit boards on these might mule gates have known issues, so I assumed the circuit board is bad. $250 to replace it and it will probably fail again. Possibly I have two bad regulators (h...

The World’s Oldest Metal Ushers in Solar Energy Boom

The World’s Oldest Metal Ushers in Solar Energy Boom When you examine the solar industry’s trajectory over the last decade, the growth is undeniable. According to a recent report by the Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA), solar energy generation has grown annually by 59 percent on average during the last 10 years; generating enough electricity to power 10.1 million homes. With 1.6 million solar installations currently installed in the U.S. and 4 million expected to be installed by 2023, the nation stands to increase solar energy generation from 53 to 100 gigawatts (GW) of electric generating capacity within the next four years. https://ift.tt/2LrfsAS

Quote comparidon

Quote comparidon I’m trying to compare two quotes: One uses 33 panels, Silfab sla-M 300’s. The other uses 29 solaria powerxt 350r-pd panels. Both use solaredge optimizers. The cost is quite similar, 15cents a watt apart. The solaria panel is more, and I’m being told that during the day times when trees provide some shade to my roof, the solaria panels can extract more energy than Silfab in the shade, overall watt rating taken into account. Installer said that the Silfab s just “shutoff” with lower light strength sooner than solaria panels. I’m having trouble validating that, any advice or confirmation? Also if anyone has a good spreadsheet they’d share, my goal is for a system that will cost me (solar loan payment+remainder of power bill) less than my monthly power bill, after year 1. We are also considering rolling into the loan cost to seal and condition our attic to lower overall home electric usage. Thoughts? submitted by /u/krebspsycho [visit reddit] [comments] https:/...
