Advice Needed - SoCal Home Solar Question
We recently purchased a home in Southern California, and solar is something that's been on my radar for a while. I've been doing the necessary research and we finally had a solar company come out for a consult and to deliver us with some numbers. However, one fundamental element he mentioned struck me as odd, and I'm wondering what to make of it.
I asked him what period of the day would we be effectively using solar power with the system, and he said only 10-2. I understand that solar is only effective when the sun is up and hitting the panels, and that the efficiency varies depending on the sun's angle. However, if we're only generating solar power when we're NOT home (we both work 9-5 jobs) during the week, what's the point? Is the benefit in the fact that we send power to SDGE and get credit for that, which we can later use to offset our usage when solar isn't being utilized in the home?
This may be a simple/stupid question, but the solar rep left before I was able to digest what he said. TIA for any help.
