Solar Powered Greenhouse I've been meaning to get around to turning my greenhouse solar, mainly because I have an extension cord running across my lawn. I currently have 2 fans, one water pump and a thermocouple in use, but I just put a 50 gallon fish tank in, so I will need more power for this. I have a shed close to the greenhouse that gets about 8-9 hours of sun a day, so I was thinking of putting the whole solar array in/on top of it. Its tough putting together how much to spend on panels and batteries but I was wondering if about $1000 would be enough for this project? Charge controller never displays charged. Hello! I currently have a small solar system set up at my cabin, it's two 6 v batteries connected in series for 12v use. My 12 v charging controller connected from my panels to batteries doesn't seem to reach "charged" level to change the indicator light from charging to charged. My inverter reads 12.9v and doesn't go much higher then that. The thought process i have is it's a cheap controller or because it's two 6v batteries instead of one 12v battery the controller can't tell when it's fully charged. The panels were installed in December 2016, and the woman who owned the house passed away in April of 2017. Solar panel to charge power bank in window. Worth it? So I have a big power bank, 26,000 mAh. The idea is to stick a small solar panel in the window and let it keep the thing topped up. Ideally this would be done as cheaply and as small as possible. Worth it? Or am I wasting my time on a project like this? I know you can get power banks with solar cells integrated, but sticking a Li Ion in the sun doesn't strike me as a particularly bright idea because batteries don't like heat, and especially because they always make the cases black, meaning that they will get even hotter than if they were white! Solar Edge vs Sunny Boy I have two quotes for 10.9 kw systems. The first uses solaredge power optimizers and the second uses SMA sunny boy. Ive read a lot on both and I am leaning towards the sunny boy for a few reasons. Cost - sunny boy quote is $2500 less Power outage - Sunny boy allows you to run 2000 watts directly off the panels during the daytime when the grid is down. I’m in FL and lost power for a week with Irma last year. Would have liked to have been able to run a window ac unit, router, fridge, etc... I would have two of these so would have enough juice for quite a few items. Shading - I have none so the largest benefit of the power optimizer is lost on me. I really like the monitoring capabilities of the solaredge but I don’t think it outweighs the cost and capabilities of the sunnyboy in my application. Do power optimizers need to be fitted to every panel to see the benefit? I have an install with 3 panels that get about 10% to 20% shading from 7pm to 9pm due to an adjacent roof line being slightly higher. Installer has recommended optimizers for those three panels so they don't bring down the efficiency of the entire array for those 2 hours. I assumed I would need them for every panel for them to be effective though? Is this the case or can they isolate sections of the array individually and leave the other 9 as normal? Solar Sculpture Options? We're currently building our house and I've been keeping an eye on solar sculptures for a few years as we're not allowed to put panels on the roof. I really liked Raw Lemon's glass ball collector as it looked different and tracked the sun (something which would be useful where we are I think). They've sort of disappeared though so I'm wondering what other options there are out there worth considering? How much energy needed to manufacture enough PVs to stop CC? From what i've read, solar energy has grown a lot but still only makes up for a really small percentage of human energy production. The whole point of solar is that its "clean". Solar Salesman and Door Knockers: How well did you really do? Hi everyone, Just trying to do as much due diligence as I can before I leave my "safe", well paying career and move into solar. I had a job interview yesterday and was offered three different positions, but the sales manager said he would rather me start as a door knocker for a month or two to really understand the business. It starts with a base salary of $600/week and I have to generate at least 8 leads within a month. Once I hit 8, anything above that I get more money for each lead and there are more tiers when I hit a certain amount. Is it as easy as it sounds? It almost sounds like a gimmick. How long did it take before you moved in to direct sales or higher up? The sales manager told me he was knocking on doors for about 2 months before he moved up into direct sales where he made $150k his first year, and he is now on his second year. Real? Fake? We talked for about 90 minutes and he seemed pretty sincere...

MPPT charge controller can take 12 to 40VDC up to 10 amps. Can I connect another source of DC input that is constant vdc and up to 10 amps instead of a solar panel? Hi folks, I'm fairly new to solar and solar charge controllers. My understanding of most PWM and MPPT charge controllers are they are a DC to DC converter. That is, it takes a DC source, and converts the amperage and voltage input into a charge bank. If that is correct, can't I use another source of DC charging instead of solar? I know that defeats the purpose, but sometimes I want to charge my lithium ion bank with a gas generator at night when I don't have solar input.
