SolarCity PPA Buyout - Fair Market Value

SolarCity PPA Buyout - Fair Market Value

I have a 9kw system from SolarCity on a PPA at my house in the San Jose, CA area. The system is 5 years old now and I am trying to exercise my current buyout option at fair market value.

The price I was given was roughly $34k, which is more than a brand new system using today's technology. I was told the FMV was determined by "Alvarez & Marsal Valuation Services" using a variety of criteria.

Has anyone successfully bought out their PPA? Any suggestions on getting this price brought down? I would hate to have to get lawyers involved.
