Please offer advice on a simple off-grid setup in Africa
Hello,
I work in anti-poaching and live off-grid in a National Park in Africa.
I currently have 3 x 300w (36v, 8.27A each) wired in parallel connected to a 24V Sukam 1600W CC/inverter, charging 2 x 200Ah VRLA batteries wired in series.
Granted it is the wet season (limited sun), and also based on the fact I think I was misled that the CC in the Sukam was a MPPT, I am running out of power at nights (solar fridge, TV, lights, PS4). My only conclusion is that this is because the CC in the Sukam is a PWM and not efficiently using the 900W of power to charge in the day (there’s no way I’m using the 200ah at night).
I’m wondering if I would be better suited getting a dedicated MPPT CC, and reverting to a 12V system by wiring my batteries in parallel so I have 400Ah of capacity? Effectively doubling my capacity.
If so, what Amperage MPPT CC would I need to support the panels (8.27Ax3 = 24.81A) .... so anything more than 25A?
Thanks for your help, it’s greatly appreciated!
Dan.
