How do you measure the level of charge on a battery?

I have a 34aH 23 V DC Deepcycle SLA battery, hooked up to ​the​ ​​Renogy 100 Watts 12 Volts Monocrystalline Solar Starter Kit (which includes ​the "Wanderer" charge controller​; w​ith lights, no meters). I also have a BesTek inverter and I am able to charge my laptop and my phone easily. I haven't run out of charge yet but I don't know how to gauge the amount of charge in the battery. Any suggestions?​

I'm new to all this. My setup is for camping and to use after the earthquake. ​​

Aurora Inverter giving E050 error randomly The message requires a reset to get the inverter working again, but it's random - may happen a couple times a day, may skip a day or two. I have checked every connection, and even inside the inverter where the DC gets connected (2 arrays running). I tried turning off each array independently, but it continued for both lines at the same frequency. The only possible point of spark generation would be the connector box on the roof, which has wirenuts from the arrays themselves to the cable to the inverter. They are tight, but I went ahead and wrapped them with silicon tape (didn't help). Could the inverter itself have a problem?
